A more important factor than backlinks will make you outperform your competitors in search engines

A more important factor than backlinks will make you outperform your competitors in search engines

In a special study for the Seo site , we analyzed several sites in search engines to find out the reasons for their superiority over their competitors, and we discovered that there is a factor that sometimes exceeds the impact of backlinks and helps these sites to rise in search engines and outperform competitors in a short time.

This factor we called: Topical Ratio

When you create a site that talks about tourism and travel and write dozens of articles, then suddenly decide to target a new keyword related to car rental and write a lengthy article about car rental and even build some backlinks trying to get to the first page in Google …

Then you find that there is a site on the first page that occupies the result number 1 on this word, but it does not have any backlinks and does not include within it only several pages that do not reach half of what you own within your site

You will immediately feel that something does not make sense! Why does this site get the first result when I am providing more and more content in terms of word count and backlinks?

The answer to this question is the topic of this article, which is: The Topical Ratio

In short, this factor is the percentage and positions of the keyword you are targeting on your site compared to the total number of pages on your site.

Let's say together that you have a site with 1000 pages talking about cooking and then suddenly decided to write an article about losing weight, but there is no page or title on your site that talks about weight loss at all...

The percentage of the topic within your site or the Topical Ratio will be 1 out of 1000 percent.

This means that the percentage of your site’s experience and knowledge of “weight loss” is 0.1% , and therefore it is impossible to lead the results in this word, even if you build hundreds of backlinks for it!

This is because Google prefers small niche sites that provide valuable content over large sites that talk in dozens of different fields that have nothing to do with each other.

But first, let's get to know how to calculate the Topical Ratio for any site:-

Go to the Google search engine and search for the following statistics, replacing the word domain.com with the link of the site that leads the first result on the keyword that you are targeting Keyword.

1 . Find the number of website pages using: site:domain.com

2 . Find the number of times the keyword is mentioned in the site titles: site:domain.com intitle:keyword

3 . Find the number of times the keyword is mentioned in the site's content: site:domain.com intext:keyword

4 . Find the number of times the keyword is mentioned in the site links: site:domain.com inurl:keyword

Then we collect the last three factors and multiply them by 100 and then divide them by the number of pages of the site to get the percentage of the Topical Ratio for each site, which we will explain through the following examples:

• Example number 1 word: water diet

We find that the second result of a topic site is better in terms of most technical SEO factors such as:

  • The Domain Authority
  • The Page Authority
  • The Citation Flow
But when we search for the Topical Ratio for the first site, we find the following:

Number of pages of the site with the first result: 33,700 pages

Number of times the keyword was mentioned in the website titles: 99 times

The number of times the keyword was mentioned in the content of the site: 980 times

Number of times the keyword was mentioned in the website links: 79 times

Then we do a simple arithmetic: (99 + 980 + 79) * 100 / 33700 = 3.43%
and this is the percentage of the Topical Ratio for the site that occupies the first result.

When we search for the Topical Ratio for the second site, we find the following:

Number of pages for the website with the second result: 168000 pages

Number of times the keyword was mentioned in the website titles: 531 times

The number of times the keyword was mentioned in the content of the site: 4770 times

Number of times the keyword was mentioned in the website links: 0 times

We do a simple arithmetic operation: (531 + 4770 + 0) * 100 / 168000 = 3.15%
and this is the percentage of the Topical Ratio for the site that occupies the second result

• Example number 2 word: Work From Home

Also, here we find that Indeed.com's result No. 2 outperforms the number of backlinks and page authority, as it is clear to you, but when we search for the Topical Ratio, we find the following:

Result #1:-

Number of pages of the site with the first result: 41,000,000 pages

The number of times the keyword was mentioned in the website titles: 191,000 times

The number of times the keyword is mentioned in the content of the site: 32,000,000 times

The number of times the keyword was mentioned in the website links: 111,000 times

Topical Ratio: 78.3%

Result number 2:

Number of pages for the website with the second result: 35,000,000 pages

Number of times the keyword was mentioned in the website titles: 131,000 times

The number of times the keyword is mentioned in the content of the site: 15,500,000 times

Number of times the keyword is mentioned in the website links: 70200 times

Topical Ratio: 44.8%

As it is clear in this example that the site in the second result outperforms backlinks, but it does not outperform the factor that makes Glassdoor.com more likely than the rest of the sites on the first page.

But in order to be more sure, we are not satisfied with these examples and we have researched more…

• Example number 3 word: Home Decor

Also, for the third time, as it is clear to you that result No. 2 outperforms all standards related to backlinks and authority, but it still cannot outperform result No. 1 and this is due to the Topical Ratio:

Result #1:-

Number of pages of the site with the first result: 69100 pages

The number of times the keyword was mentioned in the website titles: 66000 times

The number of times the keyword was mentioned in the site's content: 68800 times

Number of times the keyword was mentioned in the website links: 46 times

Topical Ratio: 195%

Result number 2:

Number of pages of the website with the second result: 72500 pages

Number of times the keyword was mentioned in the website titles: 705 times

The number of times the keyword was mentioned in the content of the site: 63800 times

Number of times the keyword was mentioned in the website links: 1260 times

Topical Ratio: 90%.

Do you still need more results to confirm the importance of this factor and its impact on the ranking? No problem, as we also did not get enough of these examples and searched for dozens of keywords...

• Example number 4 word: Tourism in Turkey

In this example, we check the first three results in order:

Result No. 1 The percentage of the Topical Ratio is: 16.4%

Result No. 2, Topical Ratio: 1.05%

Result No. 3 The Topical Ratio is: 1%

So in order for any of the first three results to rank
, your site’s Topical Ratio must be average: 6.15%
, which is the result of collecting the Topical Ratio of the first three results and dividing them by 3.

As you can see, this matter seems really effective in various fields and in various languages, and it seems that its impact exceeds backlinks and it can make the difference between sites and each other, but it should be noted that …

After examining more than 150 words in various fields, we found the following:
The Topical Ratio factor becomes very influential when it comes to ranking the first three outcomes
The Topical Ratio factor is highly active in keywords related to informational content
The Topical Ratio factor is less effective when you target keywords related to e-commerce
The Topical Ratio factor is not the only factor that controls the ranking of your site results, but it is very influential
But in order to explain the importance of the Topical Ratio, we wanted to put an order of the factors that influence and control the results of your site, so we conducted a complex mathematical equation and tested it on more than 25 sites

And we found that if each site has 100 points, the more points it achieves, the more progress in the ranking, then the factors affecting the ranking of your site will come as follows: -

Topical Ratio: 20 points
Backlinks: 15 points
Trust Flow: 11 points
Domain Authority: 8 points
Meta Tags: 6 points
Social Signals: 6 points
Loading Speed: 5 points
Content Freshness: 5 points
The Number of Words Per Page: 5 points
Bounce Rate: 4 points
Page Views: 4 points
Direct Visits: 3 points
Internal Linking: with 3 points
Synonyms: 3 points
Keyword Density: 1 point
Domain Age: 1 point
Of course, this distribution of points is nothing but our own vision in SEO . It is true of the most important factors and their impact on the ranking of results in search engines, and it is not considered an official reference to the factors of ranking sites in search engines.

You must pay attention to all these factors so that you can compete in difficult areas, with a focus on the Topical Ratio factor due to its effective role in favoring results over each other.

In the end, we at Right SEO always try to understand the search engines and put the results to the test so that we can reach the best ways that may help us improve the sites of our customers in the search engines .
