"Baby uterus" - is it possible to get pregnant and give birth?

 The baby uterus is a disease of the reproductive system, in which the size of the organ does not correspond to age and physiological norms. What problems can a woman face with such a diagnosis? Does it always mean infertility? We understand together with the gynecologist of the highest category Akhmedova Larisa Maratovna.

One of the causes of female infertility may be the so-called baby uterus, that is, a condition in which the size of the organ does not correspond to the norm. About what the diagnosis means and whether it is possible to get pregnant in this case, we talked with the obstetrician-gynecologist of the Medical Women's Center Akhmedova Larisa Maratovna.

Let's understand the terms

What is hidden under the term "children's uterus"?

The uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes begin to form during fetal development. When a girl is born, she already has a uterus that is about 4 cm long and grows as the baby grows. By the puberty, that is, by the age of 13-14, we have a formed organ - 7-8 cm in length and 4-5 in width.

If, under the influence of any internal or external factors, the size of the uterus does not correspond to the norm, then it can be called "nursery". In practice, we use a more scientific definition - uterine hypoplasia .

How is such a diagnosis made?

A gynecologist may suspect something was wrong during the examination. The final diagnosis is based on the results of an ultrasound examination. During an ultrasound, a specialist evaluates the length of the uterus, its relationship with the cervix and determines the degree of pathology. There are 3 in total:

  • At grade 1, the length of the uterus is no more than 3 cm, and half of them is the cervix. This is, fortunately, extremely rare and virtually untreated.
  • In the second stage, it is also called the infantile uterus, the length of the organ is 3-5 cm.
  • On the third - 5-7 cm. This stage is also called adolescence.

Also, to understand the whole picture of the disease, the gynecologist prescribes blood tests for hormones .

Alarming symptoms: how to recognize the disease

Are there signs by which one can judge that the uterus is small?

As a rule, girls have a delay in sexual development: menstruation comes late, at 15-16 years of age and later, anomalies in the structure of the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and even the external genital organs can be observed. They also noticeably lag behind in physical development: in height and weight, the mammary glands can be barely noticeable, and the hips are narrow.

If we are talking about an adult woman, for example, at 30 years old, then most likely she is having difficulty conceiving or has had a miscarriage, it is difficult for her to achieve an orgasm, or she has problems with libido. Her menstrual cycle is irregular and her discharge is scanty. This is due to hormonal disorders against the background of an underdeveloped baby uterus.

If I have a daughter, when should I take her to the doctor?

Of course, not always a thin physique is a sign of illness. But if with him you see that your daughter does not have periods, although she is already 15, this is an alarming bell, you should consult a gynecologist.

We are looking for the causes of pathology: who is at risk

You mentioned external and internal negative factors. Does science know why such a stop in the development of the uterus occurs?

If we are talking about congenital pathology, then it is formed under the influence of heredity, severe viral infections suffered by the mother during pregnancy. Smoking, drugs, alcohol in general negatively affect the fetus and can cause, among other things, similar malformations.

Among the reasons for the acquired form:

  • physical and psychological exhaustion;
  • thyroid disease;
  • hormonal disorders;
  • severe and chronic infections during adolescence.

Today, young girls are addicted to diets and sports to the point of exhaustion. While at 14-16 years old, it is still a growing organism that requires a balanced diet and the correct regimen of the day, sleep and rest. Sometimes it is worth returning to good nutrition, and the uterus will no longer be a child: the size reaches the norm.

Baby uterus and pregnancy

Thus, it is not necessary that this pathology entails infertility?

Of course! Moreover, even if a woman's uterus is less than normal, but the width is normal, there is a sufficient layer of the endometrium and there are no systemic diseases, she may never know about her peculiarity. She gets pregnant and gives birth. In some cases, she needs special therapy because pregnancy does not always go smoothly.

And what difficulties can a woman face during the gestation period if she has an underdevelopment of the uterus?

Many have a very strong toxicosis, and they have to undergo special treatment in a hospital. The most dangerous thing is the threat of miscarriage, when bleeding suddenly opens. But again, timely therapy helps to maintain pregnancy in 90% of cases.

If a woman cannot get pregnant for a long time and, having consulted a doctor, finds out that the uterus is for children, are there any effective methods of treatment? Is it possible to give birth without complications?

Everything is possible! Properly selected hormone therapy works wonders. From 3 months to six months - and the uterus increases to the desired size. If there are concomitant pathologies - polycystic ovary syndrome or tubal obstruction - an integrated approach to treatment using laparoscopy is required .

Learning to live with the problem

What advice would you give to patients facing such a diagnosis?

Don't despair! Based on my experience, I can confidently say that many cases of infertility are related to psychosomatics. For example, a woman found out that the uterus does not reach the conventional norm, even if only a little. She worries, experiences stress, against the background of which there will most likely be no conception. But as soon as she calms down, discusses the problem with a competent specialist, and the problem will disappear by itself. This also happens. In other cases, the achievements of modern medicine will come to the rescue.
